I get the follow error trying to start the QuickNotes Desktop version on my PC: "The database is not loaded by HotSync...Please make sure to upload the QuickNotes database using HotSync before running this software."

QuickNotes is a powerful notetaking application that lets you capture handwritten notes and drawings in ink.

Does QuickNotes work with Jot?
Yes. You can use Jot to enter the Titles for your notes.

Is there a desktop organizer for my notes?
Yes, a version of QuickNotes Desktop is available for Windows 95, 98 and NT. It is not available for the Macintosh.

The number of notes is only limited by the amount of available memory.
If you have tried the trial version of QuickNotes and wish to keep existing notes, install the full version of QuickNotes over the trial version.
Installing from a PC
- Locate the QuickNotes.PRC file and double click on it. The Palm Install Tool should open. If the Palm Install Tool did not open, click on the Windows Start button. Select Programs, Palm Desktop, and Palm Install Tool.
- Select the user name that corresponds to your Palm organizer in the user drop down list.
- If the Palm Install Tool opened when you double-clicked on the QuickNotes.prc file, you should have the QuickNotes.prc file listed under File Name. If the PRC file is not listed, either
- Drag-and-drop the QuickNotes.prc file into the Install Tool File Name list. Or,
- Click the Add button to open the Open dialog. Locate and select the QuickNotes.prc file. Click the Open button to return to the Install Tool dialog.
- Perform a local HotSync® operation to install QuickNotes.
For alternative installation instructions, refer to your Palm organizer handbook under "Installing Applications Using a Windows Computer."
Installing from a Mac
- Locate the QuickNotes.PRC file on your Mac.
- Select Install Handheld Files from the HotSync menu.
- Click Add To List and select QuickNotes.prc.
- Click Add File and QuickNotes displays on your Install Handheld Files list.
- Exit the Install Handheld Files dialog box.
- Make sure the HotSync Manager is running.
- Press the HotSync button on your Palm cradle to start HotSync. Refer to your Palm organizer Handbook for further information on HotSync.
- Reset your Palm organizer when instructed.
For alternative installation instructions, refer to your Palm organizer handbook under "Installing Applications Using a Macintosh."
Close all Windows applications. Copy the file, QNDTPalm.exe, to a folder on your desktop PC. From this folder, double-click on the file, QNDTPalm.exe. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of QuickNotes for the Desktop.
To start QuickNotes for the Desktop, select Programs from the Windows Start menu.
What are the various icons on the bottom of a note?
Pen Tap on this icon to write or draw on the QuickNotes page.
Eraser Tap on this icon to erase ink from the QuickNotes page.
Select Tap on this icon to select icon to copy or cut portions of ink from the QuickNotes page.
New Page Tap on this icon to create a new note page.
Clear Page Tap on this icon to erase all ink or clear the note page.
Zoom Tap on this icon to view the entire note page.
To remove QuickNotes from your Palm organizer:
- Tap on the Applications icon
- Tap the Menu icon
- Tap Delete
- Select QuickNotes
- Tap Delete

The first view that you see is the organizer view. This view shows all the notes in the selected category. A sample page named Welcome is displayed after you install QuickNotes. Tap on the page icon to enter into the Welcome page.
How do I assign a category to a note?
Tap on the name of the note to assign a category. Tap on the pull down menu on the upper right corner of the screen to select a category.

Tap on the pull down menu on the upper right corner of the screen. Tap on Edit Categories. Tap on the name of the category to delete and tap on Delete. You will be prompted to confirm the deletion.
How many categories can I have and what is the maximum name length?
You may have a maximum of fifteen categories and the names can be a maximum of fifteen characters in length.
What happens to all the notes in a category if it is deleted?
If you delete a category all the note pages inside it will be moved to the "unfiled" category.
How do I change the sorting preferences for my notes?
To change the sorting preferences to either manual or alphabetical press the Menu button and select Preferences.
How do I delete all the notes in a category?
To delete all the notes in a category press the Menu button and select Delete All Records from the Options pull down menu.
How do I change the category a note is assigned to?
To change the category that the note is presently assigned to open the note and select a different category from the drop down menu on the upper right corner.
How do I create a new note from the organizer view?
To create a new note from the organizer view, press the New button at the bottom of the display. QuickNotes will ask you for a title for your new note; enter a name and press OK. You do not need to enter a name; QuickNotes can work with the name blank.
Can I create a new note from the notetaking view?
You can also create a new note from the main notetaking window by selecting the new page icon or through the menu icon at the bottom of the display. All new notes are added to the end of the category.
To delete a note from the organizer highlight the number of the note and press Delete, or from the note itself select Menu then Delete Page. Confirm the deletion, and the file will be removed. Only one note may be deleted at time.
To rename a note, highlight the number of the page in the organizer and press the Rename button. Notes can have the same name.
How do I change the order of my notes?
To change the order of the notes in the organizer, highlight the name, or the page number, of the note and drag it to the position that you want it.
How do I delete all the records in a category?
To delete all the records in a category, select the category that you want to delete all the records from the pull down menu. Press the Menu icon at the lower left of the display and select Delete All Records from the Options menu.
What is in the line of text information displayed at the bottom of the page?
The status line at the bottom of the page will give the date and time a note was created and also what page number it is in the current category.
To make a note page private, tap on Menu while in the main note taking window. Tap on Options, then Preferences. Check the Private box.
How do I change the sorting preferences of my notes?
To change the sorting preferences press the Menu button in the organizer view and under Options select Preferences. This will allow you to change between manual and alphabetic sorting.
How much screen area does a note have available?
The note is three screen lengths.
Will I be able to keep the notes from the demo version when I purchase the full version?
Yes. Just be sure to install the full version over the demo version.
Can I copy my notes to other applications?
No, notes created in QuickNotes cannot be copied or exported to other applications.
Can I insert images from other applications into QuickNotes?
No, images from other applications cannot be imported into QuickNotes or the QuickNotes Desktop.

How do I navigate through my note?
Notes are navigated by scrolling. There are a number of different ways to scroll the notes in QuickNotes. First in the main note taking window you can use the scroll tab on the scroll bar to move the display the desired amount. If you want to move slowly you can use the arrows at the top and bottom of the scroll bar. If you want to scroll through notes you can use the group of up and down arrows at the lower right. To move down the screen by page, you can use the mechanical scroll buttons on the unit.
How can I view the entire note?
To view the entire note, press on the Zoom icon or use the shortcut command. To jump to a specific location in zoomed mode, tap on the desired location.

When manipulating ink in QuickNotes you must first select it. To select ink tap the Select icon and drag a box around the ink you wish to work with.
How can I manipulate the selected ink?
Once a section of ink has been selected, it can be cut or copied to be pasted into another note or in a different location on the same note. Tap on the Menu button to select Cut or Copy.
You do not need to select ink to copy an entire note. Tap on Menu, then Copy. Create a new note and select paste, the original note will be copied in its entirety.
How do I set the pen width or the size of the eraser?
In a note page, tap on Menu, Options, then Preferences.

Is there a Macintosh version of the QuickNotes Desktop?
No. The QuickNotes Desktop version is only for the PC running Windows 95, 98, or NT.
How do I start the Desktop version?
From the Windows Start menu, select Programs, then QuickNotes Desktop.
What can I do in the Desktop version?
The QuickNotes Desktop is used for viewing, archiving, and printing your notes.
Yes, you can print your notes from the Desktop version. Synchronize your notes to the PC, start the QuickNotes Desktop and press the Print icon. You can also select Print from the File menu.
When printing, all notes in one file window are printed. To print selectively, copy notes to be printed (by dragging and dropping) into a new file window.
How do I archive my notes on the desktop?
After performing a HotSync® the notes from the database on your Palm organizer will be visible in the window labeled Data from PalmPilot. Drag the notes you desire to archive to an open Desktop File window. If you wish to save notes into a new file select New from the File menu.
How many Desktop archive files can I have?
The number of files is limited only by storage space on your desktop.
Can I synchronize QuickNotes notes with my Palm Desktop?
No, notes created in QuickNotes can only be viewed from the QuickNotes Desktop version.
I get the follow error trying to start the QuickNotes Desktop version on my PC: "The database is not loaded by HotSync...Please make sure to upload the QuickNotes database using HotSync before running this software."
- Make sure you have created some notes in QuickNotes on your Palm organizer.
- Check your HotSync Manager Custom settings. The System Conduit needs to be set to "Handheld Overwrites Desktop".
The notes shown on the Desktop are black boxes. The notes are shown correctly on my Palm organizer.
Enter some notes in the first note labeled "Welcome" and re-sync your notes. Your notes should now be displayed correctly on the Desktop.
