Getting Help

RecoEcho Plus provides you the ability to use Graffiti directly on the screen of your device.  By utilizing the area on the screen, you can write bigger.  You can also see ink as you write.  If you prefer to write in the input area, you can still see what you write by selecting to display ink.  If your Palm device does not have an input area and you want to use Graffiti, RecoEcho Plus is exactly the tool you need.

• Supports Palm organizers running Palm OS 3.5 and above
• 112KB free 
• Desktop computer (Mac or PC)

Installing RecoEcho Plus

Important notes prior to installing RecoEcho Plus

• Backup your data by HotSyncing your device.
• Disable and remove trial or earlier version: Prior to installing the full/updated version of RecoEcho Plus, you must disable and remove any trial or earlier versions of RecoEcho or Jot. Reset your Palm organizer after removing it.
• Check your Palm OS version: Your Palm device must be running Palm OS 3.5 or above.

Installing from a PC

1. Locate the RecoEchoPlus.prc file and double click on it.  The Palm Install Tool should open.  If the Palm Install Tool did not open, click on the Windows Start button.  Select Programs, Palm Desktop, and Palm Install Tool.
2. Select the user name that corresponds to your Palm organizer in the user drop down list.
3. If the Palm Install Tool opened when you double-clicked on the RecoEchoPlus.prc file, you should have the RecoEchoPlus.prc file listed under File Name.  If the PRC file is not listed, either

1. Drag-and-drop the RecoEchoPlus.prc file into the Install Tool File Name list.  Or,
2. Click the Add button to open the Open dialog.  Locate and select the RecoEchoPlus.prc file.  Click the Open button to return to the Install Tool dialog.

4. Perform a local HotSync® operation to install RecoEcho Plus.
5. Reset your Palm organizer when instructed.

Installing from a Mac

1. Locate the RecoEchoPlus.prc file on your Mac.
2. Select Install Handheld Files from the HotSync menu.
3. Click Add To List and select RecoEchoPlus.prc.
4. Click Add File and RecoEcho Plus displays on your Install Handheld Files list.
5. Exit the Install Handheld Files dialog box.
6. Make sure the HotSync Manager is running.
7. Press the HotSync button on your Palm cradle to start HotSync. Refer to your Palm organizer Handbook for further information on HotSync.
8. Reset your Palm organizer when instructed.

Enabling RecoEcho Plus

RecoEcho Plus must be enabled to function.  Disable it prior to removing it from your Palm Organizer.  To enable RecoEcho Plus:  

1. Tap on the Applications icon
2. Tap on the RecoEcho Plus icon
3. Check the box to Enable RecoEcho Plus

Setting preferences for RecoEcho Plus

Enable RecoEcho Plus	Enable RecoEcho Plus by checking the box.  Uncheck box to disable.
Enable full screen writing	Write on your Palm organizer screen.  (Feature is automatically enabled on keyboard-only devices and cannot be disabled.  This option does not appear for these devices.)
Show ink when writing	Ink is displayed when you write on the Palm organizer screen and input area.
Show mode mark	Use the mode mark as a guide with writing alpha characters and numbers.  (Feature is available only if Full Screen Writing is enabled.)

Disabling and removing RecoEcho Plus

To disable RecoEcho Plus		To remove RecoEcho Plus
Tap on Applications Tap the RecoEcho Plus icon Uncheck the box "Enable RecoEcho Plus"		Tap on the Applications icon Tap the Menu icon Tap Delete Select RecoEcho Plus Tap Delete Tap Done Perform a soft reset (refer to the back of your Palm organizer)

Writing on the screen

• In an application that allows text entry, place the cursor in the text entry area and start writing on the screen.
• You will see the characters as you write.

This mode mark divides your Palm organizer screen into two writing areas.  Write letters to the left of the mode mark and numbers to the right. 

Note:  This mode mark is suppressed and not displayed on the Handspring Treo Blazer application.   

Punctuation shift

To shift into Punctuation mode write a "\" from lower right to upper left, then write the character.  If you are writing in the input area, a tap can also be used for the Punctuation mode.  

Selecting text

With RecoEcho Plus enabled,

• A single tap on the screen places the cursor at the location of the tap.  
• A stroke begins writing of a character.  
• A tap and hold selects an item.  
• A tap, hold and drag selects text.

Graffiti Help

To view the Graffiti strokes, tap on Graffiti Help from the RecoEcho Plus Preference screen.  Scroll through the pages for assistance in writing characters, punctuation, and symbols.
